Written by the Engineer and Professor Arnaldo Barbalho with the collaboration of Marta Helena Barbalho, this publication addresses the trajectory of Brazil’s development in face of the energy supply forms and conditions, from the colonial period until the 1980s. It presents the main science progresses in the field of exploitation and transformation of energy in parallel to the evolution of energy production and consumption in Brazil, detailing especially the country’s energy situation after the so called “oil shock” that happened in 1973.
